Food Services

Sterling offers Food Services that includes qualified Cooks and Dietary aides that provide residents with individualized diets based on the assessment of a qualified dietitian.

Our cooks have completed secondary school or equivalent and a recognized cooking program and Food Safe Certificate. They have experience in long term care and or the hospitality industry. Menus are selected and prepared in accordance with the “Canada Food Guide to Healthy Eating.”  Our cooks work under the supervision and direction of a Manager of Food Services, or a Registered Dietician. They are knowledgeable in preparing special and therapeutic diets, demonstrate a creative flair for menu planning, food preparation and presentation for a variety of cultural preferences.

Our Dietary Aides have completed the food safe training program and come from a recognized college.  Dietary Aides assist in the preparation of food, display and the service of food and may assist in the feeding of residents as required.

Food is a critical requirement and part of the daily experience for seniors in our resident care facilities.  It is often one of the main highlights of the day.  With this in mind, feedback is continually sought at family and resident council meetings regarding seasonal changes to menus and food preferences of our residents to maximize each resident’s quality of life and quality of care.
